SUMMER SCHOOL
IN SCIENCE MAPPING

Conducting Systematic Literature Reviews
with Bibliometrix and Biblioshiny

I International Edition
June 9-13, 2025 - Naples, ITA

The 1st International Edition of the Summer School in Science Mapping was held in Naples in 2025. The event was organized by the academic spin-off K-Synth, in collaboration with the Department of Economics and Statistics at the University of Naples Federico II.

Directed by Professors Massimo Aria and Corrado Cuccurullo, authors of the Bibliometrix software and the Biblioshiny application, the school offered an intensive five-day training program focused on the main aspects of bibliometrics. Special attention was devoted to scientific impact metrics and the analysis of knowledge structures, with the aim of producing Systematic Literature Reviews using quantitative methodologies.

This inaugural international edition featured contributions from three distinguished international speakers, affiliated with leading European research centers in the field of scientometrics:

  • Nicolas Robinson-García, Ramón y Cajal fellow in bibliometrics and research evaluation at the University of Granada, scientific director of the Unit for Computational Humanities and Social Sciences (U-CHASS), and head of the EC3 Research Group. He is co-editor of Research Evaluation and serves on the steering committee of the European Summer School for Scientometrics. His research focuses on academic careers, diversity, science communication, and social impact. He is also a board member of Quantitative Science Studies.

  • Manuel Jesús Cobo Martín, Associate Professor at the University of Granada, specializes in knowledge extraction from scientific and technological data using artificial intelligence and complex systems. He is the principal developer of SciMAT, a widely used software for analyzing and mapping large-scale scientific output.

  • Nicola De Bellis, coordinator of the Bibliometric Office and adjunct professor at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, holds a degree in philosophy and a Ph.D. in the history of science. His teaching and research focus on quantitative indicators for the evaluation of research quality. Since 2012, he has collaborated with the European Summer School for Scientometrics, delivering bibliometric training in Italy and abroad. He also provides consultancy to the CINECA consortium for the development of bibliometric reporting in CRIS environments.

This international edition further strengthened the school’s position as a reference point for advanced bibliometric training in Europe, offering a unique opportunity for interdisciplinary dialogue and methodological exchange among international scholars.
